It is a known fact that Mumbai lacks open, green spaces; it is the greatest lament of a Mumbaikar. So every little square metre of greenery we get, we cherish like life itself. Many builders and developers are now focusing on providing more open and greener spaces within their projects. This can take the shape of more landscaped gardens and walkways, butterfly gardens and mini golf courses. Kanakia Spaces at their project named Kanakia Rainforest project has taken this obsession with greenery to a whole new level by designing it around the theme of the Amazon Rainforest.
Kanakia Rainforest: Location
Spread over 4.5 acres of land which is near the protected Aarey forests and Powai, Kanakia Rainforest is being developed jointly by Kanakia Spaces and Guru Prerna on freehold land purchased from TATA’s. The project is located in the Vijay Nagar locality of suburban Andheri (East) which is in close proximity to the Western Express Highway, Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) and is about ten minutes from the Marol Metro station and Andheri-Kurla Road. Major conveniences like Seven Hills Hospital, schools, hotels and restaurants, international airport, Powai’s commercial hub are not too far off from here. Check out approximate distances in the image alongside.
The main draw of Kanakia Rainforest is the fact that the project has been envisioned to give residents a luxurious home nestled within a lush landscape inspired by the dense Amazon Rainforests with an abundance of freshness, greenery and openness. It has been projected as celebration of luxury and greenery. Kanakia Spaces have even roped in the famous Brazilian designer Laura Branco, who uses Indian influences like Osho, yogic art and meditation in her work, to consult on interior and landscape designing. A visit to the project site and sales office brings this grand feature into stark focus with the surrounding trees, the walk along an inclined road as this is also a hilly area and the office which is designed to resemble a log cabin nestled in a lush forest.
The Kanakia Rainforest project consists of 10 towers and a total of 550 flats spread across the four and a half acres of hilly forest area. Two of the towers will have 16 storeys and the remaining 8 will consist of 15 floors. 280 of the 550 flats have already been booked even though the project is still at least 2 years away from possession. The project has one premium tower named Amazona which will have only 3 and 4 BHK fully air conditioned flats. All the flats in this tower will come with viewing decks to take in the panoramic views of lakes and forests, modular kitchen, vitrified tiles, luxury bath fittings and an art gallery within the tower.
All the remaining 9 towers will have a variety of flats to suit every budget – 1, 2, 2.5, and 3 BHK flats with carpet areas ranging from 420 to 1400 sq ft. They have all the usual trappings of a luxury accommodation inside as well as outside. All residents of Kanakia Rainforest can enjoy the verdant landscape from the kids’ play park, landscaped gardens, tennis, basketball and hammock courts, cabanas, clubhouse, yoga centre, jogging track, rock climbing wall and senior citizens’ sit out area. Additional facilities like childrens’ creche, Machan, barbeque area, golf simulator and convenience store have been planned.
The site is fully mobilised with construction underway at good pace. Excavation is completed for some towers while others have progressed to the construction of basement. Kanakia Rainforest’s possession is scheduled for June 2018. Yet, given the breadth and grand design scheme of the project it is unsurprising that just after the soft launch, it was awarded the Best Themed Project of the Year at the Estate Awards, 2014. Further it is backed by Kanakia Group which has a track record of delivering 13 million sq ft across over 200 buildings in 30 years.
